Jabberwocky 2017, 28 August 2017

The English department’s annual inter-collegiate fest ‘Jabberwocky’ was held on the 28th of August 2017. It was the biggest ‘Jabberwocky’ organized since its conception, with over 100 student participants from seven external colleges in and around Bangalore. The theme of the fest was The Lit Generations- Literary movements and trends. The fest commenced at 9 A.M in the Main Auditorium, Christ University, with distinguished author, journalist and manuscript editor Mrs. Sheila Kumar as chief guest among the other dignitaries. After introductory speeches by Mr. Kishore SelvaBabu, the convener, Dr. Abhaya NB, Head of Department, English; and Dr. John Joseph Kennedy, the dean of humanities and social sciences, the audience were treated to a performance by the acapella group ‘Notes Gothilla’, following which the students dispersed to participate in the various events on offer.

The events began from 11 A.M and lasted till 4 P.M. The fest executed with a total of twelve events planned and organized at its best of quality. The events were Cos It’s Lit (Cosplay); Meraki – Raise a Voice! The students who did not take part in events helped out with class stalls in the university football ground. The stalls were based on various literary movements and trends, and despite forecasts of heavy rain, the fest carried on uninterrupted. Various competitions were held all over the university, and all volunteers and participants were given food vouchers during the lunch break. The judge for the theme based stalls was Mr. Manohar Joshi, a prominent cinematographer.

Finally, the valedictory function happened between 4 P.M. to 5 P.M. Unlike previous years, this year’s edition of Jabberwocky did not take the help of external sponsors for funding, but instead relied entirely on the students’ contribution. Prizes were distributed for the individual events to the students. For the theme based stalls, trophies were given for individual stalls.  II CEP received a trophy for best Visualization, III BA English Honours received a trophy for best Conceptualization, I MPE received the award for best Research, I CEP B for best Interaction, and the award for best Execution was given to II EPH. The rolling trophy was awarded to I MPE.
The event ended on a high note with the vote of thanks which was delivered by Mrs. Nidhi Katana, Department of English, ChristUniversity. The event was diligently organized. This year Jabberwocky had a vibrant, contagious and exuberant environment.
